Build a beautiful granite garden bench quickly and easily
Being able to take a much-needed break in everyday life and being able to sit and enjoy the view in your garden is wonderful! The green outdoor space makes us feel good and gives us the opportunity to gather energy all year round.
Garden furniture provides a warm and inviting entrance to the patio during the season but is quickly picked up during the cold months of the year and when the garden changes its colors.
Being able to install more permanent garden furniture is a fun solution. It is also relatively simple and very affordable! We go through a few steps how you can design a garden furniture in durable granite!
You can customize Stenbolaget's garden bench yourself according to your wishes and with the help of a few components you can create your very own resting place!
Block steps in granite - Choose from all our stone stairs in granite. Different shades of the stone, different step heights and step length make the choice fun as you can adapt your stone bench completely to your garden. The different granite boulders provide a seating area with different dimensions. The longer stone stairs provide a seating area for more people as a real social area can be created. Assembly with the rough cut side as a visible part gives a granite bench with a natural feel. If, on the other hand, you place the blasted back on the block step as the front of the bench, you get a more modern touch and a stricter shape.
Post elements in granite - The hollow post elements are placed on top of each other and assembled with stone glue. If the construction is to be reinforced, the hollow parts can be reinforced and cast.
For your foundations, we recommend the post element model Rustik!
Post element Rustic can be fitted to all series of stone stairs, as the dimension stays within the step depth of the block steps and forms a neat profile.
Stone glue - The glue provides an attachment point in your granite bench. Glue between the post elements and attach the granite block step with a couple of attachment points for a more stable construction.
And last but not least, a great deal of creativity and playfulness should be brought out when the garden's details are to be created!
Step 1:
Planning! Think through where your granite bench will be placed and measure carefully before the actual installation. Keep in mind that the bench will be heavy, so you may prefer to avoid moving it later. Is there a solid floor, asphalt, paving stones or tiles where it should stand or is it soil and soft ground? The bench needs stability under its foundation to remain stable. The granite is heavy and it is important to have stability underneath so that the bench does not settle and become uneven.
Plan for the size of your bench and choose a granite block step that meets your needs!
Step 2:
To get a good bed under your foundations in softer ground conditions, the surface should be excavated and crushed stone packed. This is followed by a fine layer of stone flour or stone chips being laid out in an even bed. It's important to get the first stones completely alive so work with the spirit level and make sure you have the right assembly line.
If there is a long distance between the foundations and the level is not enough, it is recommended to use a straight board or similar to be able to rest on the posts and then take out the horizontal line on top of this.
The first stone should also end up a little bit into the ground for best stability.
Step 3:
Then glue up your post elements one by one and reach your desired height. Perhaps it is a lower storage area or a clean sitting area that you want to create. Therefore, choose the right number of post elements and find your desired bench height. You can also fill the legs/foundation of the bench for extra weight or cast for additional stability.
Step 4:
Mount your choice of block steps on top of the foundations. This can be placed on top and often lies well due to its weight. But putting some anchor points with stone glue here too is a good solution to secure your placement.
And if you're looking for a concrete bench, this will of course also work well. In our assortment, you will find a range of different concrete products that can be thought of as suitable. Here it is important to be creative and think outside the box. A lot of fun can be created in the garden even if it is not the basic idea of the product itself.
Good luck!
