April 2014. Now the toboggan run will go away. We set out to dig away the sledding hill in typical Fred Flinta fashion as the forest offered too much of a challenge for a machine to be used. With pick spade and shovel and countless number of gloves, we started digging in the mound of earth. It turned out that 30% of the soil was de facto blasted rock which also needed to be moved by hand. Who needs a gym when you have a tree walk... no, rock garden?
Now that the sledding hill was gone, it had to be cast and planned for a wall at an angle. All materials had to be carried in advance and tons of stone and macadam were moved through the forest. It eventually became a pretty nice little path. A staircase also needed to be put in place in preparation for the overhead trolley. After the wall and drainage were ready, we set about building a stone planting area.
After work and toil by hand for two years, we are almost done with our oasis. What's new so far are: Wall, Drainage, A Majestic Staircase, Two Fences, Stone Planter Box, Sea Stone, Forest Planter, Slate Tiles, A Bench in the Silence, Two Japanese Trees. A little remains, however, but we'll have to take it next year or if we have a whim later this fall.
