The front of the funkishuset
FRONT IN CHAOS
This is what the front looks like after drainage and years without love for the garden. But soon the front page 2.0 project will start.
GARAGE ACCESS AND PARKING NEEDED
The old ramp to the garage is in dire need of updating. The parking lot for the cars will be paved and a bicycle shed will be built.
IT STARTS TOMORROW!
From the drainage piles, we have unearthed a bunch of stones that we will use later on. The stone company delivered the ground slabs on the appointed day. Excited anticipation for tomorrow.
NOW THE EXCAVATION STARTS!
This morning two excavators arrived and started the work with fantastic efficiency. Already the top layer of old grass, shingle, mud and stones has been dug away. The ground has been leveled so that the correct slope from the house is created. Much of what is dug up can be reused, which is great. But there will be some piles...
THE FOUNDATION OF THE AIDS IS DONE
It is not always easy to visualize how things will look. The pictures below show how the foundation for the future granite stone-lined single aisles is growing.
IS THE PARKING LOT STARTING TO TAKE SHAPE?
After all, subcontracting is essential when it comes to paving (and much else). The foundation has now been laid for the future parking lot.
THE PLATES IN THE PARKING LOT WILL BE IN PLACE SOON
Now we have precisely determined the size of the parking lot. At the far end, we are planning for a bicycle storage room. The foundation is laid this year, so next year we can continue to work on the building itself.
CURB COMPLETE
After many trips and measurements, we have now set the curb. It was difficult to find the right bow on the round part but now we are satisfied. The foundations for the single lanes are almost ready and it is getting easier to see the end goal.
LILAC HEDGE PLANTED
In order to avoid seeing the cars from the back of the garden, we spent the weekend digging the hedgerow and planting the lilac. We chose quite small plants. Our experience is that the lilac grows quite quickly and large plants cost a lot... In a few years the hedge will have grown dense if tall.
UNDERWORK IS A AND O
The curb is now set and work on the base for the single walkways has begun. The important thing now is to get the right slope from the house and that the substrate is packed according to all the rules of the art, ground sheet, bearing layer and then shingle. Everything happens under the supervision of the world's cutest cat.
DONKEY STEPS DOWN TO THE GARAGE
In the past we have had a slope down to the garage. The singlet has slipped down and ended up at the bottom of the door. Sometimes even the well has been clogged. We have thought back and forth and came up with the solution to this by building donkey steps. What may be impractical is driving the bikes up, but since we are going to get a bike storage room in the long run, it could probably be good.
WRONG SINGLE
Everything is almost ready. The sub-work finished and the only thing left is the single and a little minor fix. We have discussed the size of the single and the feeling we want to create. A shingle with warm colors that lifts warms up the white house and matches the red door. We come home and are met by corridors filled with shingles. But not the one we chose, but a single that we rather call crush.
STONE CRUSHER >SINGLE
13 tonnes of wrong crusher covers the aisles (see first picture below). What do we do now? Should we get used to the crusher, get the contractor to redo and if so which single should we have? There really are a plethora of single varieties. We walked around that evening and took some rocks from various neighbors' driveways. In the end we decided to try to get the contractor to change the single to the one at the bottom of the slide series.
FANTASTIC WESTERN BMF
It is important to choose your contractor with care. Fortunately, we have. Thank you Fredrik and Simo at Västerort's BMF who in one day managed to exchange 13 tons of crusher for the single that we finally chose. Due to a miscommunication this error occurred and we are so glad it could be corrected. Check out the results below! The wall that runs in a semicircle in front of the stairs was bricked up during the week. I am so looking forward to filling the interior with flowers.
IT WAS EVEN BETTER THAN WE THOUGHT!
Thanks to the mild autumn, the grass has now done really well. The globe cherry trees are planted. In the spring, there will be two more trees to create a clearer avenue feeling. We have now planted what we could with and are taking new steps in the spring. However, we are extremely satisfied with the result and so are all the kind neighbors who came with happy shouts.
