Easy to lay stepping stones

No heavy digging jobs, machines, clumsy tools or anything else are needed to create this type of garden path.

Assembly takes place by simply placing the stepping stones in your garden in the place where the path is to be created. Measure the correct distance and dig out the surface where the stones will lie. Mark the outline of the stone with  smaller garden spade and get the shape where the digging is to take place. The depth you dig out should correspond to the thickness of the stone, but also allow for a couple of three centimeters of a fine bedding underneath. Fill in the bottom surface of your excavation and with stone chips or stone flour, pack and place the stone. Setting bed/setting sand provides extra support under your stones and is cheap insurance to prevent the stone from sinking down and becoming uneven.

Then let the stones settle in and let the grass and gravel embrace your stepping stone. In this way, you can create a practical walkway in lawns, planting land and other surfaces that can otherwise become soft and muddy when walking and under load.

Number of stepping stones used

To calculate your need and how many stepping stones are needed, there are simple ways to solve it. A common way is to take a reference object in size with the stepping stones you aimed at. The stones can of course have different shapes and come in a wide range of sizes, but taking an approximate middle ground like 350x350mm and starting from that is a good start. Feel a smooth walk without having to jump between the stones or having to sneak forward. Let everyone in the family feel in and place the stones in a winding shape to avoid getting a walking style like on a catwalk and fashion show. To find a reference object, a cut piece of cardboard may be preferable. A general rule of thumb is that there are about 3-4 stepping stones on a 2m walking surface.
