Slate in smaller pieces! Lava is a beautiful irregular slate with a naturally shaped surface. As the name suggests, these slate tiles give a warm and vibrant Mediterranean feel with their lava stone-like appearance, while feeling incredibly classic.

Appearance

The stone maintains a dark and almost black color tone and, as the name suggests, gives a feeling of volcanic tiles and sets a really beautiful mark on the patio. The structured surface provides a good grip for feet and shoes, and the stone is therefore ideal for garden paths and patios. Irregular slate can lift any garden and this particular stone becomes a beautiful contrast to a bright house.

Size

All irregular slates have varying plate sizes to varying degrees. These tiles range from 10 to 30mm in thickness and the widths of the tiles vary from larger pieces of 300x450mm to smaller pieces of 100x100mm. Please note that the thicknesses are only a guideline for how thick the tiles normally are. However, deviations from these measurements are not unusual.

If you are looking to have a slate in larger pieces, we recommend Offerdalsskiffer 30-60 instead .

Mounting

With a thickness that varies between 10-30 mm, we recommend that the stone is primarily mounted on cast concrete sole or soil-moistened concrete. Irregular slate can also be laid on a bearing layer, but then a thicker stone must be used. Many of the smaller parts become more difficult to use, which means that the degree of spillage will be higher and the stone will have difficulty lying stable.

Feel free to consult our sales staff or customer service about your specific slate installation. Normally, you can count on about 15% waste when laying an irregular slate. Should the stone be mounted with stone fix, it fits KTF55 perfect for this slate. The smaller pieces that result are perfect to use as the last fitting pieces when the paving puzzle is to be put together! When installing on a cast substrate, it is important to use a cement-based joint, we recommend SF50 which holds for widths of 4-30mm.
